Warm-Up Essay

Grades and brief explanations are in Canvas.

See me if you want to talk about my reactions to the final versions in more detail.

“Gold Bug” Essay

Can be used for INTD 106 reflection exercise 2, but see the instructions for the INTD 106 exercise.

Canvas now thinks you turn it in “on paper.” That’s not really true, you still turn it in via sharing a Google doc or email, but doing those things through Canvas turned out to be more confusing than helpful with the warm-up essays.

Questions?

Introductions

Purpose

Provide context for the thesis (and state that thesis, of course).

“Who cares?” and “so what?”

What else might be “context” for the thesis?

Practice

In groups, try writing short hypothetical introductions around one of the thesis statements from last class.

Discussion

Don’t lose sight of all the things an introduction needs to do while focusing on one.

Of particular note, don’t get so absorbed in context, motivation, etc, that you forget to state a thesis.

Next

Peer reviews of “Gold Bug” essay drafts.

Bring a computer.

If your draft isn’t a Google doc, also bring 2 printed copies.

Remember to share your draft with me, and come discuss it with me sometime Friday through Tuesday, for half an hour.
