Breaking Them

Frequency analysis of letters, pairs, short words, i.e., the most common letters, letter pairs, and words in a ciphertext generally correspond to the most common letters, etc. in the plaintext’s language.

Try It

In groups...

  1. Remind yourselves of the ciphers you constructed last time (or make up a new one)
  2. Encipher a message of 1 or 2 sentences and put the ciphertext in this Google doc (double check to make sure it’s enciphered and copied into the doc correctly)
  3. Try to decipher another group’s message without knowing their key.
